DC Day Two: Eats

To read my other DC posts, click here, here and here

Last week I showed you what my family and I did on day two of our spring Washington, D.C. trip. Touring of the city, walking near and far to see the sights of DC. Today I’m showing you the eats.

Our plan was to eat a quick breakfast at the hotel and then to get lunch at the Founding Farmers restaurant that we had heard great things about. When we got there to eat, there was a one or two hour wait (I can’t remember which). We decided not to take up all of that time waiting for a restaurant (even though Founding Farmers looked awesome — I still want to try again next time!).

Turns out, I was not disappointed at all that our original plan hadn’t worked. We stumbled into a little cafe called Paul.Paul was so good. From the second I walked into it, I knew it was an excellent choice. In Paul, you are greeted with freshly made pastries, breads, sandwiches and desserts. Everything looked so appetizing!

It was a tough choice, but I went with smoked salmon on a fresh baked baguette. It was such a good choice! Unfortunately  the picture I took of it came out really blurry.

For dessert, I ordered a pistachio french macaron*. It was my first macaron ever, and I could not believe how much I loved it! I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to have one, and it most certainly won’t be my last.

At the end of day two, we found ourselves in Georgetown, at Baked and Wired. Baked and Wired was out of this world. There were so many delicious looking sweet options, but if you read this post, you know I went with the cherry blossom cupcake. It was so good that I didn’t even save time for a picture. After my first bite, all hope of getting one was lost. I devoured that cupcake! So, so good.

Baked and Wired has a cool atmosphere. It is hip. Their tagline is “get baked.” There is a pink bike outside the shop and on the day we were there, a Charles Dickens quote written on a chalk board. If you are in Georgetown, I think Baked and Wired is the cupcake place you should be.

So, here they are. Photos from day two: the eats.

DC Day Two: Sights

To view my first two posts about my trip to DC, click here and here.

I hope you guys don’t get tired of me posting photos from DC. I can’t believe that it has been almost a month since I was there. As I was sorting through my photos, I see that I have at least two posts worth of photos yet to share.

Today I’m sharing photos from day number two. We woke up early as a group and ventured out into the city after a breakfast at our hotel. We stayed in beautiful part of Alexandria, VA.

In the city, we knew we wanted to visit the Holocaust Museum. We went there early to get tickets and while we waited for our time, Greg and I visited the Freer Gallery of Art . I didn’t take any photos inside, but if you’re ever in DC, it is definitely worth checking out.

The Holocaust Museum is an interesting experience. I would encourage everyone to see it once, but in my opinion, one time is enough. This was at least my third time there and I would be okay with not going again. The museum is extremely powerful and extremely disturbing. It’s a lot to take in. It’s well done.

We ate lunch at the cutest little place that we just sort of stumbled into, but I’m going to share our eats from day two in another post. Get ready!

The rest of our day was spent walking all over the city. We really covered some ground. We visited the White House, and then walked to the Washington Monument, war memorials, and Lincoln Memorial, taking photos all along the way. DC really is a beautiful place and I could not get enough of the views. It’s best to go when the weather is comfortable to be outside so that you can  walk everywhere and just take everything in.

From there we walked to Georgetown, but that’s getting its own post as well!

So, without further ado, here is DC Day Two: Sights:

DC Day One: Good Stuff Eatery

To read my first post on my trip to Washington D.C., click here.

I’m so excited to tell you about and show you more from my trip to Washington D.C.! When planning our trip, my mom asked everyone going what their priorities were. My one and only request? To eat at Good Stuff Eatery.

We ate there a couple of years ago while in D.C. and I have never stopped thinking about it! I could go on and on about it and my love for it, but I’ll try to keep it short. 🙂

Good Stuff takes pride in making “handmade burgers, hand-cut fries and handspun ice creamshakes.” Let me tell you, they do all of those things so, so well.

Both times I was there I ordered the ‘shroom burger and was sooo happy with it! It is a cheese stuffed, flash fried portobello mushroom cap, thrown onto a bun with onion, tomato, lettuce and Good Stuff Sauce. I’m not sure what is in the sauce but I do know that it is perfect for the burger and just so good.

The fries are hand-cut and delicious. I ordered Spike’s Village Fries which are topped with fresh thyme, rosemary and sea salt. So, so good. Especially dipped in an array of different mustards offered at the condiment bar.

And. The milkshakes. I can’t possibly tell you how good they are. Thick, creamy and so full of flavor. This time I tried the toasted marshmallow shake and the salty caramel kiss shake. They were both out of this world good but the salty caramel kiss is still in my dreams! Is that weird? 🙂 It had the perfect balance of sweet caramel and salt all swirled into a thick dreamy milkshake.

You have to try Good Stuff if you are ever in the D.C. area. Also, good news for me, I found out that a Good Stuff is opening in Philly. I can’t wait for that day!

Now that I’ve told you all about it, let me show you. Some scenes from our first evening.

DC Day One: A Train Ride + The City

I mentioned last week that I was in D.C. for a weekend enjoying a little end of spring break getaway with friends and family.

Well, I took a bunch of photos of all different areas and things and over the next couple of weeks I will share all of the photos with you in a couple of different posts.

Today, I’m sharing with you day one.

Greg and I took the train from Philly to D.C. It was so much fun! We left from Center City Philadelphia and in two hours we were in D.C.! Our train ride consisted of tea and coffee, taking pictures out the window and Words with Friends. 🙂

Once we were in the city, we wasted no time getting where we needed to go! We took the Metro to meet up with my mom, dad and our friend John who drove to the city earlier in the day.

For the next couple of hours the five of us walked around the National Mall, taking in the sights and enjoying the absolutely beautiful day. We spent a lot of the time outside, taking pictures and enjoying the weather, but also visited the Natural History Museum. It was a great experience and I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in D.C.

I hope you enjoyed these. Next up I’ll show you how we ended the first day in D.C. It was my one request for the trip and it didn’t disappoint!

Wissahickon Walk

Greg lives in a great part of Philly. He can take a three minute walk to a station and get on a train that takes him to Center City in 15 minutes. He has a great market that is only a 10 minute walk away. He lives right near two great towns with local shops and restaurants. And, he lives close to several entrances of Wissahickon Park.

Being in the city is great, but it is so nice to have such a close escape. Here are some photos from a walk we took one seasonably warm day in January.

Enjoy!
